7 Ways to Create the Warmth of Home when Renting.

Warmth of Home

When you step out of the world and into your house you want to feel swept up into the comfort of familiar scents and sounds, recognizing the place you came into is safety and warmth in all the ways it speaks to you.  This is the case whether you are living in a home you are buying or one you are renting.  There are many things you can do to create the “I’m Home” feeling when you are living in a rental property.   Here are a few ideas and suggestions.

1. Deep cleaning
One of the best ways to help make a rental space feel relaxing is making sure it is clean.   Who wants to live in someone else’s filth?   No one does!   Wiping down walls, having the carpets cleaned (if they haven’t been already) wiping down cabinets and inside drawers, mopping floors, cleaning windows and window seals and giving the whole place a little shine is probably the best way to make your rental feel like home!   It is something you can do yourself or hire a cleaning crew to come in and do it for you but in the end, you can step back and feel a sense of peace.

  1. Kitchen and Bathroom

In each drawer and cabinet put in some fresh contact paper or shelf and drawer paper liners.   Liners give you a feeling of new and fresh.  Just remember to use something that can easily be removed.
Adding a fresh set of towels and rugs to these rooms bring the new start feeling.3.  Walls & Windows

Painting a wall or two always brings a piece of your personality to you home.  This would be something you would need permission to do of course.    But you could also use removable wallpaper to add a whimsical feel, warmth and texture, a little bit of fun for the family or a touch of color.   There are so many to choose from, the ideas are endless.  Windows are the perfect items to dress in any room.  This allows you to choose colors and patterns which make you feel happy and even the slightest bit of fabric makes a big statment.

    4.   Rooms you live in
Incorporating colors and patterns you love is key to creating a personal feel in your living spaces.   Adding a cuddly throw blanket to the couch or a chair in a room, tossing a few decorative pillows onto the couch, chairs and bed gives you an invitation to relax.Adding flowers or little pieces from your collection of favorites allows you to claim your living areas as your space.   Placing framed photos of your loved ones around your home or on walls is another way to feel welcomed as you walk into your home each day.

    5.   Plants

Adding a little life to a shelf or a side table by placing happy plant or two brings a fresh feeling to your home.   If you are like me and have a hard time keeping plants alive go for the faux plants.  They still give that refreshing look, and you don’t have to worry about watering them.

    6. Front Porch
Put down a new welcome mat.  There are some fun ones you can buy, gives you the opportunity to welcome your guests with a little personality showing.    Add a couple pots filled with flowers or your favorite foliage.   Hang a desired wreath on your door.   Adding just a little bit to your porch will not only welcome your guests but provide a cheerful feel as you prepare to enter your abode.

    7.   Scents
If you have ever walked into a Bath and Body Works store you know there are endless aromas to fill your home.   I personally love fruity scents with coconut, vanilla, and pear top my favorites.   You might enjoy the floral fragrances or a muskier flavor.   Choose a scent that you love and use it.   Of course, nothing beats the wonderful smell of bread baking in the oven.   If only they could make that in a spray or candle.

These are just a few suggestions to help you create the space you want to come home to.   There are many ways to claim your space even if it is just for a time.   A house becomes home when you feel joy and peace and can shut out the world when you close the door behind you
